Create a directory under the /html directory
called 'realcontent'.
Upload your .ra, .rm files into that directory.
Then create a file using notepad with the following text...
'pnm://www.(yourdomain).com/realcontent/(filename).ra'.
Save as
(filename).ram and upload it anywhere in your site.
Now make a http:// link
to the .ram file and it will automatically stream your new RealAudio file when
you click on it.
Error 75: Why do I get "Error 75: Site does not support
PerfectPlay?"
If you receive this error when trying to listen to a RealAudio
or RealVideo file from a Web site, then that site's Server is not configured
with PerfectPlay.
To turn off PerfectPlay, click PerfectPlay mode on the
File menu of the RealPlayer Plus.
The Web site or provider who is supplying the content has the
ability to decide if content is recordable. Due to copyright issues, some
content cannot be recorded. If you want to record from a particular site,
contact the site's Webmaster for permission.
If you experienced a system crash when accessing a Web site
containing RealPlayer Plus versions 4.01 or 5.0 embedded as a plug in using
multiple consoles within a table, this is a known problem.
The cause of this behavior is due to the way that Netscape
handles unloading plug ins from tables on the MacOS. We are aware of the
problem and hope to resolve it in a future version of our product.
Improving Playback Quality
How can I improve the playback quality?
If you are experiencing problems with poor playback quality it
may be related to heavy traffic on the Internet, especially if you are playing
the files between 6:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. These are peak hours on the Internet
and the traffic load is the likely culprit. Many ISP's are working on upgrading
their equipment to accommodate this increased traffic, so you may see relief
soon. You may want to check with your ISP to see if they have plans to upgrade
their equipment in the future.
To receive the best possible video image, follow these
guidelines:
- Set your monitor to 16-bit (thousands) or 24-bit (millions)
color.
- Close unnecessary applications on your computer.
- Don't use the Zoom button.
If the audio sounds too fast, too slow, scratchy, or
distorted, change the Advanced settings in the Player.
- Select Preferences from the View menu (Windows).
- Click the Advanced Tab.
- Click either Disable 16-bit sound or Disable
custom sampling rates to modify the way your player and sound card
interface. You may need to play with which setting sounds best.
To get stereo sound with RealPlayer Plus 5.0, you need at
least a 28.8 Kbps connection, and a link to a RealAudio (.ra) or RealVideo
(.rm) stereo file. Verify that the bandwidth field in the Connection tab of the
Player's Preferences window is set to 28.8 Kbps modem or faster.
For RealVideo (.rm) files, the video and audio portions of the
.rm files share the bandwidth. Content providers have to decided which portion
of the clip to emphasize - audio or video. This is a trade-off process to
insure the best quality playback. However, since video is very resource
intensive, very few video clips contain stereo sound.
